Boston’s Year of the Food Hall is stretching into 2020 (and beyond), with several 2019ish openings now pushed to the new year. Downtown Boston’s forthcoming food hall, High Street Place, will be one of them, set to open in early 2020 between 160 Federal St. and 100 High St.
The food hall is announcing several more of its vendors today, in addition to the dozen that have already been revealed. New to the lineup, which will eventually number 20:
- Bad Doughnut: This will be the first storefront for pastry chef Tess Wood’s doughnut pop-up, which has also made appearances at farmers markets. Wood’s brioche-style doughnuts come in flavors like “chips and giggles” (vanilla glazed doughnut topped with potato chips and chocolate-hazelnut drizzle) and “zesty shades of grey” (early grey glazed doughnut with sugared lemon zest and rosemary).
- Gorgeous Gelato: This Portland, Maine-based gelato shop comes from wife-and-husband duo Mariagrazia Zanardi and Donato Giovine, who hail from Milan, Italy. This will be Gorgeous Gelato’s second location, and it will feature flavors like chocolate and caramel, dark chocolate, and hazelnut. There will also be other desserts, such as gelato cannoli, gelato panini (made with a warm doughnut), Italian cookies, gelato cakes, and gelato-based cocktails.
- Gracenote Coffee: Already a familiar name on the Boston scene with a downtown location on Lincoln Street, Gracenote will expand to High Street Place, serving espresso drinks, teas, and more, plus coffee cocktails and wine.
- Hum’Oveh: A sibling to Eastern Mediterranean restaurant Anoush’ella — which has locations in Boston’s South End, at Time Out Market Boston in Fenway, and in Lynnfield — Hum’Oveh will serve dishes inspired by Middle Eastern street food, including stuffed flatbreads, protein bowls, and mezze, with plenty of vegetarian options.
- Newburyport Brewing: This will be the North Shore brewery’s second tasting room, featuring 12 taps, including a rotating gluten-free option. In addition to Newburyport’s Plum Island Belgian White, Green Head IPA, and more, there will be collaborations with other New England breweries.
Previously announced vendors include two restaurants from Eater Boston’s 2019 Empire Builders of the Year Tiffani Faison and Kelly Walsh, a pizza-and-grinder joint and a raw bar; a cocktail bar from Hojoko alums Daren Swisher and Joseph Cammarata; a new location of downtown burger favorite Wheelhouse, as well as a fried chicken joint from the same team; a new location of the Farmacy Cafe, formerly known as Jubali, serving breakfast toasts, salad bowls, and more; a sushi spot from the JP Fuji Group, which has restaurants in Quincy, Cambridge, and beyond; a fourth location for juice shop Mother Juice; a noodle shop from the team behind Noodle Lab at Boston Public Market, also featuring Southeast Asia-inspired street food; the first non-truck location for Mexican food truck Northeast of the Border; a new location for Somerville restaurant and food truck Pennypacker’s, known for its porchetta sandwich; and a new location of Bay Village sandwich shop Mike & Patty’s.
The food hall is a joint effort among Rockpoint Group, Rockhill Management, and food hall development advisors CANAdev, with design by Gensler and Groundswell Design Group. When it opens, it will feature indoor and outdoor space (including seating for over 300 indoors), a giant green wall of evergreen boxwood and preserved reindeer moss, and space for events, including live music, a speaker series, live viewing events on a giant LED video wall, and more.
High Street Place will join another new food hall in the early part of next year — Hub Hall at the Hub on Causeway development by TD Garden and North Station — and there are even more to come later.
