Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's staggering royal demands for Eugenie's wedding - Express

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s youngest daughter Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank in their royal wedding last October at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Although only ninth-in-line to the throne at the time – now tenth after the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsorthe Queen’s granddaughter enjoyed a fully-televised wedding that was broadcast over three hours on ITV. However, according to royal reporter Tom Sykes, it was Sarah – otherwise known as Fergie – and Andrew who were pushing for the broadcast deal for their daughter’s nuptials – which at the time were attracting criticism for how much they were set to cost the taxpayer.

Mr Sykes wrote: “After some hectoring from the Yorks, commercial channel ITV agree to run the wedding live but the BBC declined to follow suit, declaring there wasn’t sufficient public interest.”

Although Eugenie’s nuptials were not covered in the same manner as Prince William’s or Prince Harry’s, ITV did run a royal wedding special edition of This Morning.

Added to this, according to the royal correspondent, Fergie and Andrew were keen to arrange the same deal for their eldest daughter Princess Beatrice, who became engaged to her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi this summer.

Mr Sykes continued: “The Yorks were believed to be pushing for a similarly grand, semi-state affair for their older daughter Beatrice, who got engaged to her property developer boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, earlier this year.”

However, with the fall-out from Prince Andrew’s disastrous BBC interview at the end of November, and his subsequent resignation from royal duties, Beatrice’s wedding is looking less and less likely to be broadcast.

Mr Sykes added: “That will now not be happening – but Beatrice, friends say, will not be too bothered.”

A friend of the princess told the author: “I can honestly say that the splendour of her wedding will be the last thing on Beatrice’s mind.

Podcast host Ann Gripper added: “It’s only weeks since Princess Beatrice announced her engagement.

“A special moment for her should be walking down the aisle with her dad.

“For her, it’s really sad."
