San Francisco street food fest: Dumpling Down for Lunar New Year - East Bay Times

Red envelopes, lion dancers, fireworks — sure, those are all wonderful parts of the Bay Area’s Lunar New Year celebrations. But can we talk dumplings? And kumquat mimosas?

San Francisco’s SoMa StrEat Food Park is hosting Dumpling Down, a Lunar New Year food fest, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 9, complete with steamed, fried, baked and oh-so-saucy dumplings. We’re talking shumai, XLB, har gao, bao buns and more from an array of 15 different Asian food trucks, which will be serving up dim sum dumplings, as well as scallion pancakes, fried chicken, spicy noodles, egg tarts and that Taiwanese rolled ice cream that made people lose their minds a couple of summers ago. (And also last summer and probably this coming one, too.)

There will be music and other live entertainment, too, plus Chinese beer and bottomless kumquat mimosas.

The dumpling-centric festival is an all-ages, rain-or-shine affair — yes, there is covered seating — and pups are welcome. Find the StrEat Food Park at 428 11th St. in San Francisco, and event details at www.somastreatfoodpark.com.
