The Queen’s father, King George VI, only had two daughters - then-Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.

That meant a Queen was destined to rule the monarchy after his passing.

But if he and the Queen Mother had given birth to a son after Princess Margaret, the Queen’s younger sister, that son would have been the rightful heir to the throne, before his sisters.

Instead, Queen Elizabeth II has broken records as the longest-serving monarch in British history with her 67 years on the throne.
