'Southern Charm': Kathryn Dennis' Troubling Parenting Habits Revealed In Joe Abruzzo's Deposition - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis and her ex-boyfriend and former co-star, Thomas Ravenel, have finally reached a conclusion in their custody battle. Ravenel has been awarded primary custody, with a few caveats thrown in there for good measure.

Though it may seem as if the trouble has worked itself out, parenting is never that easy. In fact, if the depositions involved in the court case are anything to go by, trouble may be on the horizon. Joe Abruzzo, a former Senator and ex-boyfriend of Dennis’ was subpoenaed in the case, and the deposition he was required to give reveal some troubling behavior.

Thomas Ravenel wins primary custody

Thomas Ravenel and Kathryn Dennis have been battling for custody of their children since the Southern Charm couple broke up in 2016. After years of bitter conduct in court, the two have finally been handed down a verdict. Thomas Ravenel will have primary custody of Dennis’ children, Kensie and Saint.

Ravenel will be responsible for providing money for a nanny, as well as healthcare. Other after-school costs will land on their shoulders equally. The two also have several rules they need to follow in order to maintain their status.

The court laid down a rule that “specifically prohibits either parent from granting the children permission to watch any episode or reunion show of Southern Charm. This restraint expires on each child’s 13 birthday.”

Dennis and Ravenel are both restricted from having partners spend the night while the children are over, unless they’re married. The two are also expected to keep t clean, and refrain from making “any disparaging remarks about the other parent to the minor children, in the presence of the minor children, or within earshot of the minor children, or allow or encourage others to do the same.”

Kathryn Dennis’ troubling parenting habits

While Kathryn Dennis and Thomas Ravenel have finally reached a conclusion in their custody battle, it seems there are still some concerns over Dennis’ parenting skills. Dennis briefly dated former Senator Joe Abruzzo while filming Southern Charm. Abruzzo’s deposition indicated that Dennis might not be the fittest of parents.

Specifically, Abruzzo’s deposition details an event where Dennis essentially left one of her children in Abruzzo’s care all night while she went out partying. It seems Dennis didn’t realize her son, Saint, was falling behind while trick-or-treating. Abruzzo brought this to Dennis’ attention, and she asked Abruzzo to take Saint back to her house.

“And she said, you know what, could you just bring him back to the house? And I will be there — I will be right there. … I felt it was the right thing to do,” said Abruzzo in court.

He continued, “I just met him — this was only the, fifth or sixth time — that she ever met me. He wasn’t crying because he was with me, but he was whining, didn’t want any part of it, and she just left him with me. So she asked me to take him back to the house, and she would be right there, and I did. So we went back to the house, and I went in and got a cartoon on for him. So I’m in her home alone with her son.”

“So I was the only one, just the two of us, Saint and I in her home alone. And she said she would be right back, and she didn’t come back for a very long time. … I was just more in shock that she stayed out, left me with her son, didn’t — when she came in the home, didn’t come and like see how we were. Just kind of went and did her own thing. And then, like I said, with all the commotion in the home because -clanking on the floors because it is not all carpet, you know, he eventually woke up,” explained Abruzzo.

Abruzzo also mentioned that Dennis was frequently inebriated, the children were often up late, missing school as a result, and that Dennis’ mental state often seemed erratic. He also mentioned that Dennis lived in a dirty home, even sleeping on a bare mattress.

Joe Abruzzo clarifies, believes cast is taken advantage of

Though Joe Abruzzo’s deposition is damning, the former Senator informed Showbiz Cheat Sheet that he did not testify out of malice.

“I was mandated by court order to give the deposition. I was subpoenaed and I had to testify. It was nine hours,” explained Abruzzo, clarifying that he had no intention or expectation that his deposition would go public. “I was surprised — I refused to even release our text messages. She released our text messages in that case,” he further explained.

Abruzzo feels as if the Southern Charm cast members are being taken advantage of by Haymaker. “This is the only high level of entertainment where those actors don’t have the protection of a union. I watched what happened with Kathryn Dennis and her contract, and this would never have happened with a union. As a former Senator I’m willing to take up a cause to make sure their body of work is protected and that they’re compensated fairly,” said Abruzzo.
