Empanadas - Latin Street Food’s ‘Hispanic pierogies’ flavoring Parma’s Polish Village - cleveland.com

PARMA, Ohio -- Adding a Hispanic flavor to the Polish Village is what Empanadas - Latin Street Food provides the Parma community. It doesn’t hurt that the new Ridge Road restaurant is melding the two ethnic worlds together into tasty namesake creations.

“The empanadas are delicious, authentic and homemade,” said Jennifer Quinones, who co-owns Empanadas - Latin Street Food with husband, Alberto. “Some people are calling them Hispanic pierogies.

“We buy the best ingredients and fresh ground beef and chicken. We also do buy Goya, so we don’t leave out our Hispanic roots.”

The turnover-style food is filled with savory ingredients that run the gamut and cater to different tastes – meat lovers, broccoli and cheese, crab, pastrami, Hawaiian (ham, pineapple, mozzarella), Polish (kielbasa, kraut, potatoes, peppers, onions) and vegetarian selections, including a vegan option.

“There are only like three classic empanada flavors -- pizza, chicken and beef,” said Quinones, who lives in Rocky River. “My husband always wanted to have a restaurant with all kinds of flavored empanadas. He wanted to step out of the box to do something else, something more.”

In 2015 the couple opened up Ridge Road business Cleveland Custom Tees. They had the idea for Empanadas - Latin Street Food, but it wasn’t until a location next door became vacant that they decided the time was right.

More importantly, the customers were too.

“It’s been our dream and hope for two years,” Quinones said. “So when we learned of the empty spot we went with it opening in October. The reaction was excellent. People were standing outside waiting. While my husband has plans to expand, I’m not sure about that yet.”

As the owner of two small businesses in Parma, Quinones said the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Something we’ve learned over the years is a lot of our customers say they want to support small businesses,” Quinones said. “That’s something we love. That’s a good thing about Parma.”
