How Kate Middleton and Wills to reclaim royal spotlight while Meghan Markle and Harry away - Express

, 38, and , 35, will take a six-week break from royal duty towards the end of this month when they will travel to the US with baby Archie. The new parents have had a busy time since Archie’s birth and occupied the headlines more often than Prince William and Kate, .

On Wednesday it was confirmed the Sussexes will stay in America throughout the festive season and plan to spend their first Christmas as a family with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland.

While the decision to spend Christmas in Meghan’s homeland has outraged some critics it seems a logical step when they have spent the past two Christmases with the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family at Sandringham.

The move has the Queen’s support and a Buckingham Palace statement said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month.

“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, [the couple] will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria.”

Mr Fitzwilliams claims the focus will now be on Wills and Kate during Christmas at Sandringham with Meghan and Harry out of the picture.

He added: “There will also be their traditional appearance with other members of the royal family at St Mary Magdalene’s Church on the Sandringham Estate on Christmas morning.”

According to Mr Fitzwilliams it will be beneficial for Prince William and Kate to get more coverage following a “divisive year.”

He added: “This will as usual get global coverage as we move towards the end of a year which has been a divisive one for Britain but during which, as the future King and Queen Consort showed in their recent politically sensitive trip to Pakistan, they are admirably equipped to cope showing dignity, commitment and charm.”

While Prince William and Kate are more senior royals than Harry and Meghan more attention has been focussed on the Sussexes in recent weeks since they featured in an explosive documentary.

During their time in Africa Meghan and Harry opened up about struggling under the scrutiny of their royal roles prompting huge speculation about their future within the royal family.

In the ITV documentary, Prince Harry also addressed rumours of a rift between him and Wills and said: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under, inevitably stuff happens.

“But look we’re brothers. We’ll always be brothers.”

“We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and as I know he’ll always be there for me.

“We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy but I love him dearly.

“The majority of the stuff is created out of nothing but as brothers, it’s just as I said, you have good days, you have bad days.”
